Migrate to Unified Analytics

BigPanda is ready to help make your migration to the improved Unified Analytics a success.

Analytics is a key tool in recognizing the effectiveness of both your internal monitoring systems and your BigPanda configuration. Unified Analytics brings more functionality and improved flexibility to help you measure and visualize the metrics of your IT organization.

By default, Unified Analytics includes several OOTB standard dashboards to report on key elements such as Mean Time to Resolve, User Actions, and Tool Efficacy. These default dashboards use a purpose-built data model that makes it easy to report and visualize the state of your incident management without the need for complex calculations.

Your BigPanda enrichment configuration is unique to your organization, and your reporting needs will reflect the particular teams, tools, and tags you leverage. With Unified Analytics, you now have the power to easily create your own custom dashboards using simple workflows and drag-and-drop capabilities.

Analytics Improvements

  • You can now manage your own custom dashboards, adjusting to fit your custom tags, MTTx definitions, and tools
  • Improved OOTB dashboards
  • Real-time data visibility
  • Improved load times
  • EU Region support

In order to leverage these improved capabilities, your organization will need to migrate your analytics into the new tool and data set.

Prepare for Migration

Migrating to Unified Analytics is a simple, seamless process initiated by your Customer Success Manager. During the initial migration phase, you will have access to the Legacy Analytics platform as well as Unified Analytics.

Take the following steps to ensure a smooth migration:

  • Determine who at your organization will create custom dashboards. Each of these users will need to have a BigPanda role that includes the Analytics_Full_Access permission.
  • Review your organization’s reporting needs and highlight any key areas that need to be covered.
  • Carefully review the eight OOTB dashboards available in Unified Analytics. The OOTB dashboards should fulfill the reporting requirements for most organizations.
  • Ensure that your organization is using the recommended tags. Default tags allow the OOTB dashboards to work without intervention. You may need to work with your CSM to adjust tags.
  • Any custom reports you have previously designed will need to be recreated in Unified Analytics. Take special note of the purpose and use of these dashboards as reporting fields and formulas are different in Unified Analytics.
  • If you need to add additional custom tags to your reporting fields, create a list. Your CSM will need to coordinate adding any necessary tags.

📘

While the custom reports you previously created will not appear in Unified Analytics, any previous customization or whitelisting of reporting tags will carry over.

OOTB Migration

If you have not configured custom reports in the Legacy Analytics platform, migration will simply mean the eight new OOTB dashboards will be made available to you. You will temporarily have access to the Legacy Analytics reports alongside Unified Analytics to give you time to adjust any reporting processes.

Once Unified Analytics is live in your instance of BigPanda, get to know the eight OOTB dashboards and learn more about their metrics. See the Unified Analytics documentation for more information.

Custom Dashboard Migration

If you are currently using customized reports in the Legacy Analytics platform, you may need to create custom dashboards to fill those reporting needs.

On migration, you’ll have access to the eight new OOTB dashboards and will need to review any potential reporting gaps they do not fill. You will temporarily have access to all of your Legacy Analytics reports alongside Unified Analytics to give you time to adjust any reporting processes or create dashboards to fill any reporting gaps.

As one of the key advantages of the Unified Analytics toolset is the ability for your team to own and manage your dashboards, the BigPanda team will not be creating custom dashboards for you. Instead, your CSM will coordinate with your team to teach and walk your dashboard designers through the dashboard creation process. This may include the BigPanda University Unified Analytics course or live training sessions.

This ensures that your custom reports will be matched to your organization’s reporting needs, and that your dashboard designers will have the training they need to create additional dashboards and customizations in the future.

Best Practices and Tips

  • Become familiar with the new interface. The look and feel of Unified Analytics is different than the previous platform and contains many more advanced features. Practice using the new tools and get to know the updated layout. See Using Analytics Dashboards for more information.
  • Unified Analytics Dashboards aren’t one-to-one replacements for your reports in the Legacy Analytics platform, but have been expanded and improved.
  • Data in Unified Analytics is refreshed every few hours. You can view the timestamp next to the dashboard name to see when it was last updated.
  • The BigPanda University Unified Analytics certificate course is available to give you the skills you need to succeed. This course is highly recommended for Dashboard Designers.
  • Review the Unified Analytics documentation to learn more about the improved functionality and dashboard available with migration.
