FAQs

How is the initial sync going to impact Servicenow usage performance?

When using the Fivetran connector for ServiceNow, the rate limit on requests is determined by the ServiceNow API rate limit configuration. ServiceNow imposes its own rate limits on API requests to manage the load and ensure fair usage among all users. If the ServiceNow API responds with a rate limit error, such as a 429 status code, Fivetran will handle this by reducing the number of records queried and retrying the request. This adaptive approach helps to stay within the allowed limits and ensures successful data synchronization. It's important to be aware of these limits and plan your data syncs accordingly to avoid hitting the rate limit.

If there is a concern around performance, since we only read data, the connector can use a read replica set only since it only reads data.

What access do we need for Servicenow now?

Read only for the specific tables mentioned above.

Is the Update Set in the ServiceNow store?

No. The Update Set is unique per customer because each customer has custom tables and configurations that might require changes to the Update Set.

Is the data secure in transport?

Credential information is encrypted using the Fivetran Secure Credentials Service when provided and when used during connector syncs. Read more about credential handling in the Fivetran documentation.

Connections to organization's database sources and destinations are SSL encrypted by default.

Connections to organization's software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool sources are encrypted through HTTPS.

How long does the data stay in Fivetran?

Data remains in Fivetran for a varying duration depending on the type of data. Read more about data retention in the Fivetran documenation.

Can you do a row level filter?

At the moment there is no row level filter option for the ServiceNow connector.

Where does the data land?

The data lands in a separate database designated to data connectors with internal access only.

Each customer's data is stored on a separate schema to ensure segregation of data. The data is transformed and available to use in Unified Analytics.

Initial syncs - what data is resynced if the initial sync date is updated?

All the data is resynced from the new initial sync data to the current date after every change in the initial sync start date

How long does the initial sync take?

Depending on the ServiceNow rate limit, the amount of data synced, and the initial sync start date. It can take between days to weeks.

How often does the data sync? What is the sync frequency?

By default the sync frequency is set to 2 hours. It is possible to modify it and set it up between minutes up to 24 hours

Our organization has years of data which will take a long time to load. Is there a workaround?

Yes, BigPanda only needs 13 months worth of data from the current date.

Is Fivetran certified to handle PII data?

Read about Fivetran security credentialing in the Fivetran documentation.
