Deep Research

Deep Research runs long-running, multi-agent investigations across your tools and compiles the findings into a report you can review later. You start a Deep Research run from Biggy Chat, and every run appears in the Deep Research section of the BigPanda web app, where you can track its progress and read the finished report.

Deep Research can be accessed at Operate > Reports > Deep Research.

Within the Deep Research section, you can:

  • See all of your research runs and their current status in one place.

  • Track a run through each stage of the investigation in real time.

  • Review the subtasks, spend, and other metrics for a run.

  • Stop a run early and receive a partial report.

  • Read the report Biggy drafts as the run progresses.

Keep working while Biggy researches

Deep Research runs in the background, so you can keep working in Biggy Chat or elsewhere in the web app while a run completes. Return to the Deep Research section at any time to check progress or read the report.

Start a Deep Research run

You start a Deep Research run from the Biggy Chat input bar. Select the Deep Research icon to arm your next message, type your query, and send it to begin a background run.

For full details on writing and sending a Deep Research query, see the Deep Research section of the Biggy Chat documentation.

Open the Deep Research section

To view your research runs, go to Operate > Reports > Deep Research.

The section lists every run as a card. Each card shows:

  •  Status: The current state of the run, such as Researching or Stopped.

  •  Brief: The query text that started the run.

  •  Timestamp: When the run started, such as "6 days ago" or "less than a minute ago".

  •  Subtasks: The number of completed subtasks out of the total.

  •  Spend: The estimated cost incurred by the run.

  •  Duration: The total time the run has been active

To open a run and view its details, select the card.

At the top right of the section, select Refresh to update the list with the latest run status.

Track research runs

Use the filter tabs at the top of the section to narrow the list by status:

  •  All: Every research run, including stopped runs.

  •  Active: Runs that are currently in progress.

  •  Completed: Runs that finished and produced a report.

  •  Failed: Runs that did not finish successfully.

The number next to each tab shows how many runs match that status.

Run status

A run moves through the following states:

Status

Description

Researching

The run is actively in progress. A sub-status shows the current stage, such as Planning the investigation or Reviewing the report for gaps.

Completed

The run finished and the report is ready to read.

Failed

The run did not finish successfully.

Stopped

You stopped the run before it finished. Biggy delivers a partial report based on the work completed so far.

View a research run

Select a card to open the Research run panel. The panel shows the run's status, the brief that started it, its current stage, and its metrics, along with the report as Biggy drafts it.

Research stages

An active run progresses through five stages, shown in the stage tracker at the top of the panel:

Stage

Description

Scoping

Biggy defines the boundaries of the investigation and what to cover.

Planning

Biggy plans the investigation and breaks it into subtasks.

Investigating

Biggy runs the subtasks and gathers evidence across your connected tools.

Synthesizing

Biggy combines the findings from the completed subtasks.

Reviewing

Biggy reviews the drafted report for gaps before finalizing it.

Run metrics

The Research run panel displays the following metrics for the run:

Metric

Description

Round

The number of research rounds Biggy has run.

Depth

The depth of the current investigation.

Subtasks

The number of completed subtasks out of the total, such as 1/4.

Spend

The estimated cost incurred by the run, such as $1.57.

The panel also shows a progress percentage and the total number of tokens the run has used, such as 81,732 tokens.

Stop a run

While a run is in progress, select Stop to end it early. Biggy stops the run and delivers a partial report based on the work completed so far.

Read the report

As the run progresses, Biggy drafts the report directly in the Research run panel. The report is written in Markdown and updates as new sections are completed, starting with a title and an executive summary.

When the run finishes, the completed report is available in the panel for review.
